The Alsace Wine Route - Colmar - Strasbourg
Suggested 3-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Colmar
Departure in the morning via Thionville, Metz, Nancy, Lunéville, Baccarat, followed by breakfast. We continue through St-Dié, crossing the Vosges, the Col du Bonhomme, Kayserberg on the Alsace Wine Route to Colmar. Check-in at the hotel and lunch. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the old town and its very old half-timbered houses, such as the Pfister House or the Old Customs House. You will stroll through Colmar's Little Venice with its picturesque tanners' quarter, but you can also visit it in a fascinating way with the merchant's quarter, gliding by boat through surprisingly lush vegetation, passing medieval houses, dream gardens, and under trees that stretch like a canopy over the Lauch. We recommend visiting Matthias Grünewald's Isenheim Altarpiece at the Unterlinden Museum. Dinner and overnight stay in COLMAR.
Day 2: Riquewihr - Alsace Wine Route - Haut-Koenigsbourg
After breakfast, depart for Riquewihr, the pearl of the wine route. Well-preserved walls and watchtowers, as well as many old Gothic and Renaissance-style houses with beautiful courtyards, form an extremely picturesque image of the village. Then, visit a wine cellar where you can taste delicious Alsace wines. Lunch in Riquewihr. In the afternoon, continue along the wine route, Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, and the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle. Visit the castle, which is located on a hill at 755 m above sea level above the Rhine plain. From the castle, there is a magnificent view over the valley to the Black Forest and the Vosges. The journey continues to Kintzheim and the visit to the Monkey Mountain. In a pine forest of about 20 hectares, around 300 Barbary macaques live freely, which can be observed during a walk. You can also visit the Eagle Park in the ruins of Kintzheim Castle with its diversity of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey. If the weather permits, you can watch training demonstrations. Return to Colmar via St. Hippolyte.
Day 3: Return home - Strasbourg
After breakfast, journey via Sélestat, Benfeld, and Strasbourg. In the morning, guided city tour. Visit, among others, the magnificent Strasbourg Cathedral and La Petite-France, one of the most picturesque districts of old Strasbourg. After lunch, you will have time to stroll around the city or take a boat trip on the Ill River. In the afternoon, return to Luxembourg via Saverne, the Sarr-Union highway, Saint-Avold, Thionville.
