ITINERARY

Day 1: May 12, 2025 / Arrival 
In the morning you fly with Luxair from Luxembourg to Funchal. On arrival, you will be transferred from the airport to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2: May 13, 2025 / Hike Santo Da Serra / Portela - 11 km & 200 m altitude difference
Your first hike takes you through eucalyptus and laurel forests at an altitude of around 650 m. You can enjoy unique panoramic views of the north coast and Madeira's highlands. After around 2.5 hours, you will descend to the Portela Pass, where you will be served soup, homemade bread and a drink. The bus will then take you back to Funchal via Machico and Santa Cruz. 

Day 3: May 14, 2025 / Hike Rabaçal - 25 Fontes - 10 km & 290 + 100 m elevation gain
Today you first head into the highlands. From the Paúl da Serra high plateau, you hike 20 minutes downhill to the Rabaçal forester's lodge. This is the start of a hike with breathtaking panoramas: the Rabaçal gorge, waterfalls and the steep west coast. The levada to the Risco waterfall is impressive. Flashlight required for tunnel passage.

Day 4: May 15, 2025 / Funchal - Monte - Botanical Gardens 
You will go on a city tour of the island's capital Funchal and discover some sights such as the 16th century Sé Cathedral. You will then visit the Madeira Wine Company, where you will have the opportunity to taste the wine. The excursion continues to Monte, just 6 km from Funchal. There you will visit the pilgrimage church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, where Charles I, the last emperor of Austria, is buried. Afterwards, take the cable car to the Botanical Gardens, where you can admire a number of rare plants on 3.5 hectares.

Day 5: May 16, 2025 / Hike Pico Do Arieiro - Pico Ruivo summit hike - 10 km & 250 m elevation gain
Today's hike takes you through the mountains of Madeira. First you climb the Pico do Arieiro, before climbing the highest peak on the island, the Pico Ruivo at 1861 m. If the weather is good, you can expect a magnificent view of the neighboring island of Porto Santo and the uninhabited Desertas. You then return to Achada do Teixeira and take the bus to Santana, known for its photogenic houses with pointed thatched roofs. Finally, you return to the hotel.

Day 6: May 17, 2025 / Hike Ponta São Lourenço - 4 km & 65 m elevation gain
This hike offers access to spectacular views of the rugged rocky landscape. The colors of the rock formations change depending on the position of the sun along the way to the easternmost point of the island. The moderately difficult 15-minute climb to Elephant Head at the end of the tour rewards you with phenomenal views that make this experience unique.

Day 7: May 18, 2025 / Hike Levada Do Rei - 10.5 km
Today you will first cross the beautiful valley of São Jorge. You will explore Madeira's rainforest and discover the variety of plants that thrive here. On your way, you will pass a waterfall and see a true paradise on earth. The untouched beauty of this place, where silence and nature are in harmony, leaves an unforgettable impression.

Day 8: May 19, 2025 / Journey home
After breakfast, transfer to the airport. Direct flight from Funchal to Luxembourg
