Trulli, piazzi and olive trees

This diverse hiking trip leads to the heartland of Apulia, with gentle hills of swaying olive and almond trees, picturesque old towns with narrow alleys and medieval piazzas. You will hike to the famous Trulli in the Val d'Itria, the mysterious Castel del Monte, and the centuries-old cave churches in Matera. Excursions into the world of wine and olives bring you closer to the culinary treasures of the region and its stories. You will stay in selected **** accommodations with charm and history: in historic buildings of village hotels located in the medieval town centers of Monopoli and Carovigno.

Itinerary of the Trip

Day 1: To Apulia

• Flight Luxembourg-Bari (Luxair, 06:00–08:05) – other airports upon request
• Coffee break in Bari
• Walk through the old town
• Tasting of traditional Panzerotti
• Transfer to Monopoli

Day 2: Rock Churches and Millennial Olive Trees

• Train ride to Fasano
• Visit the rock settlement Lama d’Antico
• Hike to the sea - Approx. 13 km, easy, 50 m ↑ 50 m ↓
• Return by train

Day 3: To the Mysterious Castel del Monte

• Bus transfers hotel-start point/Castel del Monte-hotel
• Hike to Castel del Monte - Approx. 10 km, moderate, 160 m ↑ 120 m ↓
• Lunch on a farm
• Visit Castel del Monte

Day 4: Cone Roofs, Picnic & Wine

• Bus transfers hotel-Alberobello/Locorotondo-hotel
• Stroll through Alberobello (Trulli)
• Shopping for a picnic
• Hike through the Itria Valley - Approx. 14 km, moderate, 160 m ↑ 170 m ↓
• Wine tasting in Locorotondo

Day 5: Cave Churches in Matera

• Bus transfers hotel-start point hike/Matera-hotel
• Hike to Matera - Approx. 8 km, easy to moderate, 180 m ↑ 350 m ↓
• City tour (cave churches)
• Walk in Carovigno, free time

Day 6: Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve

• Hike (Santuario Madonna del Belvedere) to the WWF Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve - Approx. 10 km, moderate, 0 m ↑ 50 m ↓
• Nature walk
• Aperitif by the sea
• Tour of Ostuni (short stop on the way back)
• Visit to an olive mill (including olive oil tasting)

Day 7: Donkey Trekking to the Farm

• Bus transfers hotel-Ceglie Messapica/Agriturismo-hotel
• Tour of Ceglie Messapica
• Hike to the Agriturismo Giardini di Marzo, the final third accompanied by donkeys - Approx. 13 km, easy, 0 m ↑ 65 m ↓
• Light lunch at the farm

Day 8: Return Flight

• Transfer to Bari Airport
• Flight Bari-Luxembourg (Luxair, 08:50–11:00)
